В монографии представлено современное понимание истории Реформации и религиозно-политической борьбы в Англии XVI — первые десятилетия XVII века. Данный период в британской истории был временем разрыва церковно-административных связей с римско-католической церковью, началом формирования национальной церкви и пуританизма, комплекс этих факторов оказал большое влияние на развитие духовной культуры во всем англоязычном мире. Под непосредственным воздействием Реформации приобрела свою идентичность британская политическая система, государственность во главе с монархом, сосредоточившим светские и церковные властные функции, а также активизировался Парламент как законодательное учреждение. В Англии сохранилось католическое сообщество, ограниченное в правах, но не потерявшее свою вероисповедную идентичность, что стало одной из основ толерантности и культурного разнообразия. Период XVI — первой половины XVII в. во многих отношениях ознаменовал начало становления политической системы и складывания социо-культурной самобытности современной Великобритании.
